Bisoye Tejuoso built one of Nigeria's most formidable business empires

Born into the Egba royal family in 1916, a sharp business sense set Bisoye Tejuoso apart early on. She began as a foodstuffs trader in Zaria, using the railway to expand her reach. By the 1950s, she had become an agent for the United African Company (UAC) and a major distributor for Vono Industries. Her success in commerce allowed her to invest in real estate across Nigeria.
Her influence in manufacturing took shape in 1964 when she co-founded Nigerian Polyurethane Ltd, producing Cool Foams. After a dispute with her partners in 1970, she secured a loan from the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank to establish Teju Industries. The company became a leader in foam manufacturing, marking her as a major force in Nigeria’s industrial sector.
Holding the title of Iyalode, she was not only a business leader but also a figure of great influence among the Egba people.
