Hannah Awolowo was a formidable businesswoman, political strategist, and philanthropist who played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s socio-political landscape. As an influential entrepreneur, she became Nigeria's first distributor for the Nigerian Tobacco Company in 1957 and was instrumental in introducing imported lace and textiles, transforming the fashion industry.
Her political influence was undeniable. When her husband, Obafemi Awolowo, was imprisoned in the 1960s, she took charge of his political movement, rallying support and keeping the party active. Awolowo dedicated herself to philanthropy, supporting education, healthcare, and religious institutions.
