Nkechi Nwankwo began her journalism career in 1987 as a production sub-editor at This Week magazine before joining Champion in 1988, later becoming Sunday Champion editor. The role offered her the opportunity to observe the stark absence of women in leadership and its impact on societal perceptions.
Determined to address this, she began researching gender disparities in politics, gathering data and conducting interviews. A writer’s fellowship at Oxford allowed her to complete Gender Equality in Nigerian Politics, drawing insights from international leaders, including Norway’s Prime Minister.
Her work offers an analytical perspective on the benefits of increased female leadership, influencing discussions on governance and representation.
