Chika Okpala gave Nigeria one of its most iconic comedic voices in Chief Zebrudaya Okoroigwe Nwogbo, the unforgettable star of New Masquerade. His sharp wit, eccentric diction, and playful satire lit up screens from the 1970s to the 1990s, holding a mirror to society with humour and charm.
More than a performer, Okpala was a writer, producer and cultural force, shaping the language of Nigerian television comedy. His command of structure, timing and social commentary elevated comedy beyond entertainment, turning it into a vehicle for reflection and storytelling.
