The Funkees Kept Dance Floors Alive

The Funkees rose from the ashes of post-civil war Nigeria as a vibrant force in Afro-Rock. Starting out as a military band in Aba, they quickly made a name for themselves in Eastern Nigeria, matching the energy and style of Lagos legends like MonoMono and BLO. Their electrifying shows, sung in Igbo and English, kept dance floors alive night after night.
In 1973, they crossed continents to London where their fierce live performances and two landmark albums, Point of No Return (1974) and Now I’m A Man (1976), earned them acclaim.
