In 1961, Ayoka Foyeke Ajangila began her professional recording career with Decca, marking the start of a journey that would span decades. Her music, deeply rooted in Yoruba culture, captivated audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
Ajangila’s career thrived from the 1950s to the 1980s, distinguished by her emotive delivery and distinctive voice. She gained international recognition in 1979 when she toured Europe with the legendary Hubert Ogunde, showcasing the richness of Nigerian music on a global stage.
Her music was deeply personal. After the birth of her first child, she released Olórun Ní S’omo, an album of gratitude and celebration. Like much of her work, it seamlessly blended personal storytelling with cultural expression, cementing her legacy as a powerful voice in Nigerian music.
