Charlotte Obasa, born into the prominent Blaize family of Lagos, was a pioneering entrepreneur and philanthropist in early 20th-century Nigeria.
In 1913, she founded the Anfani Motor Bus Service, introducing one of the first motorised public transport systems in Lagos. More than a business venture, it eased urban mobility and underscored her determination to improve daily life in the city. Years earlier, in 1907, she had contributed to the establishment of the Lagos School for Girls, recognising the urgent need for young women to receive a formal education.
Obasa’s commitment to public service was equally evident during World War I, when she contributed to war relief efforts.
