In 1972, Bode Sowande founded the Odu Themes Theatre Company, creating a platform for socially conscious drama. His acclaimed plays, including The Night Before Babylon (1972), A Farewell to Babylon and Other Plays (1978), and Flamingo and Other Plays (1980), explore themes of oppression, resistance, and social change.
His narratives give voice to the marginalised, advocating for revolutionary change through peaceful means. In A Farewell to Babylon, he depicts a farmers’ revolt against tyranny, emphasising the power of collective action.
Sowande also worked on radio and television productions such as Acada Campus and Without a Home in the early 1980s.
