Catherine Obianuju Acholonu gave voice to identity, tradition, and social realities through poetry and drama. Her 1985 collections, The Spring's Last Drop and Nigeria in the Year 1999, probe the complex layers of Nigerian life, confronting cultural loss and the urgent need to preserve heritage.

Poems like Going Home, Dissidents, and Harvest of War reveal her deep commitment to tradition and faith, urging a return to cultural roots as a safeguard against societal decline. She also wrote plays including Into the Heart of Biafra (1970), Trial of the Beautiful Ones (1985), and The Deal and Who is the Head of State (1986).
