Evi Edna Ogholi emerged in the late 1980s as Nigeria’s first prominent female Reggae artist, developing a sound that fused roots-inspired rhythms with lyrics in her native Isoko language. Her debut album, My Kind of Music (1987), marked the beginning of a prolific stretch during which she released six albums by 1990.
Her music often explored themes of social consciousness and personal reflection, captured in songs like Look Before You Cross and Oghene Me. Her most famous track, Happy Birthday, became a celebratory anthem across West Africa, earning her lasting popularity.
