Peter Obe began his career at the Daily Times in the early 1950s, quickly rising to chief press photographer, celebrated for his keen eye and commitment to capturing critical moments.
Working primarily in the era of black-and-white photography, his distinctive approach created a collection of images that were often striking, enigmatic, and thought-provoking.
His bold coverage of the Nigerian Civil War inspired a whole generation of photojournalists. The impactful images from that period were gathered in his photobook, Nigeria: A Decade of Crises in Pictures, providing a powerful and emotional portrayal of those turbulent years.
